SUMMARY Lymph nodes are selectively removed in order to diagnose cancer metastases. In this investigation, we developed a magnetic probe for intraoperatively detecting the accumulation of magnetic fluid. We built a magnetic probe consisting of a permanent magnet and a Hall effect sensor, and investigated its sensitivity. The results agreed well with the numerical results. In addition, a prototype probe detected 1.6 mL of magnetic fluid located 30 mm from the probe head.
