Most discussions higher education professionals have about disability focus on accommodations and what legal requirements must be met, said Michelle Heinig Resnick, Director of Disability Accommodations and Support Services at California State University, Channel Islands. Only recently, the discussions have begun to more often include disability rights as civil rights and disability as part of identity, she added.
