A survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed that about 7–19% of adults in America report insufficient sleep. Adequate sleep is essential for both physical and mental health, safety, and quality of life. Conditions such as high blood pressure, heart and kidney disease, diabetes, stroke, obesity, and depression are linked to sleep deficiency, as are certain mental health conditions.
