More than 80% of an individual's risk for developing autism comes from genetic makeup, according to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association: Psychiatry . Researchers looked at data from more than 2 million people born between 1998 and 2011 in five countries for the largest study of its kind on the development of autism. The five countries where subjects were studied were Israel, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, and Australia.
