Food allergies present a host of issues for institutions that offer meal plans. Although the 2012 Lesley University settlement agreement with the Department of Justice and the similar 2019 settlement agreement with Rider University provide a roadmap for resolving most accommodation requests, both leave open the question of when an exemption from a mandatory meal plan rather than an allergen‐free meals accommodation may be necessary.
