Veterinarians, physicians, and psychiatrists have the highest rate of suicide among all professions and a higher rate of suicide than the general population. Despite the high rate of suicides among those who work in these fields, most students who enroll in veterinary or medical school are mentally healthy and stable, suggesting that a look at the training they receive in these programs is necessary to help determine if that training causes undue stress or mental health strain, according to new research.
