As disability services professionals, we often take for granted our knowledge of the field and expect that everyone at our institution has the same level of understanding. This can lead to frustration as we encounter people on campus who seem to lack empathy due to discomfort with involvement in accommodations or who show reservation in discussing disability. Their reactions are likely a result of avoiding what they have been taught is a sensitive topic that is rude to discuss.
