Suicide rates have increased nationwide since 1999, with Nevada being the sole state to see a decrease in the rate of suicide during that period, according to a report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 2016, nearly 10,000 Americans aged 10 years or older died by suicide, and it is one of only three leading causes of death in America on the rise since 1999.
