A research report from a behavioral analyst at Texas Tech University has concluded that using time with therapy dogs as a motivational reward can be effective for students with autism. The study was conducted by using time with the dogs as a motivational reward for academic performance for students with autism spectrum disorder. The study was an extension on previous findings, in unrelated studies, that found that students with ASD responded positively to achieving academic benchmarks when faced with a rewards‐based system.
