College psychology curricula severely underrepresent physical disabilities within courses taught across the nation, according to a recent study published in Teaching of Psychology . The study, “Teaching About Disability in Psychology: An Analysis of Disability Curricula in U.S. Undergraduate Psychology Programs,” analyzed the titles and descriptions of more than 700 psychology courses from 98 undergraduate psychology programs. It found that all institutions offered courses on psychiatric disability, but only eight offered courses on physical disabilities.
