On July 31, 2015, an appeals court for the Northern District of Illinois partially overturned a previous dismissal of a lawsuit by William H. Silk, who was suing Moraine Valley Community College. Silk, an adjunct professor, sued the college after his course load was reduced and then he was fired following his heart surgery in April 2010. He alleged that his termination violated both the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act. The original court ruling granted summary judgment for the college on all counts, but the appeals court partially upheld the judgment and partially reversed it.
