Departmental administrators are often expected to supervise other staff members. And although they're eager to become effective supervisors, most receive little to no training in supervision skills. So they often end up supervising the way they were supervised, for better or worse. That's according to Sarah Marshall, an associate professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at Central Michigan University.
