A nonlearned, response‐dependent testing technique entitled Response Adjustment Procedure (RAP) is introduced. The technique is designed to circumvent or reduce the use of a learning paradigm in very immature animals and utilizes age and species‐appropriate motor behavior. Initial data on the onset of light avoidance in rats are presented to illustrate the method.
