A 4‐wk double‐blind comparison of amitriptyline vs. thioridazine was conducted in 54 anxious depressed patients. Both drugs showed essentially equal efficacy in relieving target symptoms. Thioridazine may have a clinical role in the treatment of anxious depressive symptoms in selected patients.
