Imagine new soldiers being prepared for battle. One group, fresh off the bus from the recruiting center, is given two days of training where commanders tell them what they'll need to do, and in that time they are asked to review important pages of manuals on the maintenance of equipment, rules of engagement, hygiene, and first aid. After each day's lectures, they're told that everything they'll need to know is in the books they've been given. They are then dispatched to the front.
