During her four decades in education, Valerie Rutledge, Ed.D., has been a high school teacher, an adjunct professor, director of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's School of Education, and dean of UTC's College of Health, Education and Professional Studies. Rutledge earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in education at UTC and her doctorate of higher education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Along the way, she took a leave of absence in 1993–94 to direct her father's campaign for governor of Tennessee.
