Political comments on social media lead to discipline of medical student

The ability of professional schools to punish students for unprofessional use of online social media while off campus continues to be an issue contested in the courts. A recent decision by the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico, Hunt v. Univ. of New Mexico , aligns with other rulings throughout the country in finding that administrators in professional schools may require compliance with defined professionalism standards, even for off‐campus activities, so long as their actions are reasonably related to pedagogical concerns.
