A team is a group of people working toward a common goal. A project committee is a kind of team, but too often these groups never become high‐performing teams, and projects suffer as a result: deadlines missed, budgets exceeded, people disengaged, and opportunities lost. This is because every day at colleges and universities, a new project committee is formed to work on renovating a space or rethinking a service or reorganizing a department. New groups of people are assembled to take on tasks that are new to them and to work with colleagues and consultants who are new to them as well.
