“If you can take a vacation, then they don't need you,” my father told me over the table as we ate dinner one Thursday night. His comment mirrored the strong work ethic that he has demonstrated his entire life, a model that I, as a first‐born, Type‐A child, have tried to emulate but have found difficult to do.
