After almost a half‐century in academic administration, including 25 years as Hofstra University's provost, preceded by nine years as Hofstra's business dean, I was set to take a sabbatical and return to the full‐time faculty. Hofstra's president, however, asked me to postpone my sabbatical and serve instead as dean of our Zarb School of Business. Not what I expected, but I have a strong commitment to Hofstra University and I said yes.
