In August of 2002, extreme flooding destroyed the almost 300 year‐old listed arched bridge – known as Pöppelmann’s Stone Bridge – across the Mulde River in Grimma. The floodwaters undermined several bridge piers of the 7‐bay arched bridge. A partial reconstruction constituted a compromise between recreating the historic design of the bridge and the requirement for flood protection. The bridge was re‐opened in August 2012 (s. pp. 327–331). Foto: © INROS LACKNER AG
