Summary This work aims to provide an electrically small reconfigurable antenna with modification in the radiating strip length to switch between 5G mid‐band and 4G band‐40 application. Initially, the length of the radiating strip is designed to operate at 3.5 GHz for 5G mid‐band applications. Using switch configuration, the length of the radiating strip is modified so that the antenna's resonant frequency shifts from 3.5 GHz to 2.32 GHz, which can be operated at 4G band‐40. The effective radiation remains the same at two resonant modes. In terms of size, the proposed antenna geometry is (16.5 × 10.5 × 1.6) mm 3 . The designed antenna with an electrical length of 0.7014 mm is electrically small in size in comparison with the works of literature. Antenna structure provides a gain of 0.69 dBi and 1.35 dBi at resonant frequencies 2.32 GHz and 3.5 GHz, respectively. The geometry of the antenna is straightforward, and the prototype is fabricated on a low‐profile FR4 substrate. The simulated results are validated experimentally.
