In this issue, Wang and coworkers propose an algorithm to quantify the color and shade of stained images. This issue's cover depicts part of their approach. A color wheel image, which provides both color and shading—the phantom image—is surrounded by similarity maps calculated from the phantom “color wheel” image, all hovering above the original stained image tissues.
