The XUV optical properties of dense plasmas are investigated experimentally and theoretically. We calculate the dielectric function of a dense carbon plasma including effects of higher density. These dielectric functions are then used together with transmission measurements of high‐order harmonics through dense foil plasmas to obtain the initial electron density and temperature.
