The 2‐D 2‐fluid finite element code FELS has been coupled to the Monte‐Carlo code for neutrals EIRENE and to the flux‐surface fitted structured mesh generator Sonnet. A good agreement with the finite volume B2 code is demonstrated in an actual divertor geometry, provided the FELS mesh is sufficiently aligned and poloidally refined.
