The influence of a magnetic field on the emission of the H β line in a T‐tube plasma was investigated. Applied magnetic fields were 0.5 T and 2.1 T. The H β line profiles recorded under the same conditions in the presence and in the absence of the magnetic field were compared. We observed a small red‐shift of the lines emitted along the magnetic field lines. A qualitative explanation of this effect is given.
