A review of the present status of 2‐D fluid codes for the simulation of the boundary plasma in tokamaks has been given in this paper. The major physics issues contained are: (1) plasma and impurity transport model, (2) neutral gas transport model, and (3) atomic/molecular data base. Example results of the simulation of gaseous divertor in ITER (EDA) are also shown to make the discussions clear.
