A natural electric field in SOL plasma is discussed. It is shown that the potential difference between the relatively hot plasma in SOL and cold plasma near the divertor plates is of order of 2Teh/e, where Teh is the hot plasma temperature. The radial dependence of electron temperature produces the outward directed positive electric field perpendicular to the magnetic surfaces and poloidal E×B drifts.
