For solar and stellar modeling, a high‐quality equation of state is crucial. In addition, however, helioseismic and asteroseismic observations put constraints on the physical formalisms. Thus they effectively turn the Sun and the stars into laboratories for dense plasmas. Currently, the main astrophysical beneficiary of a good equation of state is the seismic determination of the chemical composition of the interior of the Sun and stars (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
