Critical Evaluation of the Determination of the SOL Transport Mechanism from a Statistical Examination of Experimental Data

A statistical approach originally proposed to determine the underlying transport mechanism from a regression analysis of experimental measurements of the power deposition width at the targets is tested against 2D modelling data. The method is found to be unable to discriminate clearly in favour of the transport mechanism actually used in the modelling. Therefore conclusions based on such an analysis of experimental data may not be warranted. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
