The results of experimental investigation of the effect of the state of the cathode surface on its photoemission properties are presented. It is found that the low‐pressure glow discharge treatment of the copper cathode surface in the air results both in a substantial shift of the photoeffect threshold to the long‐wave region of a spectrum and in a change of the quantum photoemission yield.
