With the help of an iterative method we derive a higher nonlinear evolution equation of the KdV‐type starting from the Vlasov‐Poisson system. This equation describes the amplification of ion‐acoustic solitary waves. A perturbative‐theoretical approach is given for small deviations from the 1‐soliton solution. The amplification shows an exponentiel time behaviour in this limit.
