Among the dissociation products of a r.f. discharge in CCl 4 ‐vapour the radicals CCl 3 and Cl 2 ‐ have been identified by EPR‐spectroscopy after condensation at 80 K. The gas‐phase reaction CCl 3 + O 2 → CCl 3 OO has been used to estimate the CCl 3 concentration to be approximately 5 · 10 13 radicals/cm 3 at p   CCl   4= 55 Pa. The life‐time of CCl 3 ‐radicals is governed by the rate of desactivation of some exited species (eg. CCl 4 *) via. At a pressure p   CCl   4= 55 Pa a half‐life of CCl 3 ‐radicals of τ1/2 = 80 ms has been found.
