An one‐dimensional theory for the cathode fall region of the glow discharge is developed, basing on Boltzmann equations for electrons, positiv ions and fast neutral molecules, and on simple empirical relations for the impact cross sections and secondary emission coefficients. The equations are solved numerically for the case of anomal discharges in H 2 (5 kV and 10 kV), and the results are presented graphically, together with results of previously calculated elementary models. Finally some ideas concerning two‐dimensional theory and stability questions are proposed.
