SUMMARY In this letter, it is shown how the canonical circuits for the synthesis of symmetrical two‐port networks can be derived from the eigendecomposition of the impedance matrix. Extensions to reciprocal two‐port networks are discussed. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
