The approximation of the finite‐impulse‐response (FIR) digital filters using the bilinear transformation of a restricted class of the rational functions is considered. The reference rational functions are constructed for maximally flat selective and quadrature filters. The proposed method can be directly used for both even and odd degree filters, and yields simple explicit expressions for the filter coefficients.
