A new Howitt transformation is defined which is applied to the hybrid description of a newly defined augmented network obtained by extracting appropriate terminals from an n ‐port passive reciprocal network. A relationship between the Howitt matrix and the matrix T , which relates the state realizations of equivalent n ‐port networks, is found. For a restricted form of the matrix T , it is shown that a sufficient condition for the existence of such a relationship is that the equivalent n ‐ports be reciprocal. It is also shown that this relationship always exists for equivalent n ‐port RC or RL networks regardless of any restriction on the matrix T .
