The Cover Feature shows how lignins and cellolignins (cellulose‐containing lignins) are paving the way to successful biorefineries. These variations of renewable raw materials have been largely overlooked as potential candidates for high‐value applications. In this Review, we highlight the importance of valorizing these lignins to make sugar‐based biorefineries economically viable. Current biorefinery designs need to be optimized towards the integrated use of all products in high‐value applications, rather than focusing only on bioethanol, biofuels, or sugars.
