The Inside Back Cover shows a van Krevelen diagram where it is clear that the deoxydehydration reaction (DODH, green arrows) furnishes a dramatic change in the H/C and O/C ratio for various biomass constituents. It is compared to dehydration (blue arrows) and reduction (red arrows). Although the DODH reaction is formally the sum of a reduction and a dehydration, the use of a one‐step transformation can be advantageous, for example in the direct conversion of glycerol to allyl alcohol.
