10.1002/crq.3890190107.abs Community conflict management approaches have been dominated by theories and paradigms that are rooted in deficit language and problem solving. An exciting opportunity for future theory, research, and practice within community conflict management is the role that affirmative communication practices play in creating healthy communities and managing conflict. Three community building and conflict management programs are highlighted and their implications for future theorizing and practice are explored. This article contends that future community conflict management would benefit from emphasizing affirmative linguistic practice, adopting a transformative approach to theorizing, and highlighting the role of situated judgment in communicative practice.
