Distrust can initiate and sustain intractable Conflicts. We discuss the origins and development of distrust, and elaborate on functional versus dysfunctional distrust and the levels of distrust in relationships. We use this foundation to develop a series of practical steps to manage distrust more effectively so that intractable Conflicts can be transformed to be more amenable to resolution.
