The CdI 2 material when is grown by using the different techniques under a same growth conditions shows a rich character in crystallization with several phases (polytypes). The exhibition of these polytypes has been explained here by following the Gibb's phase rule. Therefore, an effort has also been made to calculate the stacking fault energy of these polytypes.
