DC conductivity and dielectric properties of consolidated nano‐particles of red‐HgI 2 have been studied. DC and AC conductivities have been found to be about 3 orders of magnitude larger than that reported for single crystals of red‐HgI 2 . The enhancement in dielectric properties have been attributed to the defect structure of the particles due to excess surface stress and the structural anomaly of their surface.
