A simple empirical relationship has been established for the estimation of lattice energies for alkli halide crystals directly from the values of interionic distances. Another new relation has also been proposed between the lattice energy and plasma energy. The calculated plasma energy values are utilized in the estimation of electronic polarizability in alkali halide crystals, in order to test the applicability of the proposed relations. Good agreement is observed between the computed and literature values of electronic polarizability. The merits of the present approach is discussed.
