In most cases of microhardness Kick's law of similarity is unvalid. Therefore different equations were supposed to describe the real dependece of load and diagonal length of an indentation. These equations are independent from one another and it is not allowed to combine these. It is shown by means of experimental values from Joshi and Pandya that in a limited range of load different types of these equations can be used without a possibility to decide which gives a better description.
