The thermally stimulated discharge currents (TSDC) of pure NaYF 4 , and NaYF 4 doped with 0.5 mole% Sm (in the form of SmF 3 ) have been studied as function of polarizing temperature and polarizing field strength at a constant heating rate (β) = 0.05 Ks −1 . The activation energies, relaxation parameters and charge were evaluated. The origin of TSDC spectra in NaYF 4 : Sm is attributed to space charge polarization. Whereas both dipolar and space charge process are found to operate in NaYF 4 sample.
