Single crystals of 2‐cyclooctylamino‐5‐nitropyridine (COANP) and 2‐(N‐(L)‐prolinol‐5‐nitropyridine (PNP) were grown from tetramethoxysilane gels. Lowering the temperature or seeding of supersaturated water/ethanol gel solutions led to optical quality crystals of several mm in size. In the case of PNP the addition of Nd 3+ to the gel solutions decreased the concentration of milky defects. Morphological descriptions for COANP and PNP crystals are given.
