Abstract Nickel complexes of 1,10‐phenanthroline and 2,2′‐bipyridyl which can have strong intermolecular interactions have been prepared in the present work. The complexes with intermolecular interactions appear pink, red or red‐violet. Two of the complexes prepared Ni(Bip) 2 · Ni(CN) 4 · x H 2 O and Ni(Phen) 2 · Ni(CN) 4 · y H 2 O indeed show strong absorption bands at 470 nm and 500 nm, respectively.
