The specific volume and ultrasonic velocity measurements (at four different fixed frequencies) are carried out in the liquid crystal 4′‐n‐pentyloxy‐4‐cyanobiphenyl (5 OCB). From these studies various physical parameters like adiabatic compressibility, molar sound velocity, molar compressibility, van der Waals' constant and intermolecular free lengths are estimated. The variation of the order parameter at the four frequencies is also studied. The results are analysed.
