The growth kinetic and size decreasing process of tungsten rod‐like crystals by heating in the iodine vapour are studied. Effects of tungsten filament temperature (2400 – 3500 K), iodine concentration (to 6 mg/cm 3 ) and water contents (0.01 – 0.05 mg/cm 3 ) are shown. Maximal growth rate of tungsten whiskers to 30 μm/min. Stopping of the growth and following removing by iodine reactions take place after heating to 3500 K.
